Barn conversions are one of our favourite projects and this one is no exception. With the owners previously gaining Planning Permission with another architectural company, ST Architecture and Design were employed to produce the Building Regulation drawings and see it the project through to completion on site.

Situated within the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, not far from Matlock, this barn is part of an old farmhouse setting. With the land no longer being used for farming the owners wanted to diversify and make use of a building that was once a valuable asset to the farm.

Planning permission was granted to turn the building into 2 holiday lets, a one bedroom and a two bedroom, with the option to utilise it as a three bedroom let for a larger family/ group.

The old barn is to remain largely untouched with the exception of any remedial work to ensure it’s structurally sound. The existing more recent addition to the old stone barn of the timber framed, corrugated iron structure is to be removed and replaced with a timber clad extension which will house two bedrooms and a bathroom. The contrast between the old stone work and the newer, more modern timber will help tell the evolution of the barn without detracting from its history.

We cannot wait to see this project start on site and keep up to date with the progress.
